Project Car: Neon City
A story based racing and life simulator game in future theme that players should find a way to maintain a normal life in the bottom of society. Underground culture with modified vehicle that is abandoned in 2050 becomes the spiritual support of young people and old schools who need to find a way to stand still in such hazard environment. This culture becomes a serious problem to deal with for police department, while the upper level of the city contains government and “well-educated” people keep oppressing the lower level for money and power. Although most police officers use violence to deal with every problem they meet underground, some of them are being rational and kind to these underground people. Players switch the control between two protagonists which is a young couple in this society, and the stories underground continues with each person’s humanity revealed in every moment…

A 26-year-old young woman who have a strong interest in old school modified car which is popular during 1970s-2010s. She learned a lot of knowledge about car parts and car driving when her past father taught her when she was a child. For her, underground culture of car is her life. She now works in a car factory who help customer modified cars in low prices, and people like her as she is always hard working and produce nice works. Her dream one day is to step on the higher level of the society and tell upper class how they can do well in different careers. Yona is also in love with Ivan, a former formular race driver.
I did the character design, model, sculpture, cloth, rig, animation, texture for Yona. The other characters’ model are online resources for the whole narrative idea.
A 35-year-old former race driver. He was talented, but his race had been shut down, since the upper-class people think the race brought pollution to the Earth, which is actually an excuse for completely abandoned cars produced before 2030. He lost his job in one night, and he do not have income anymore from then on. He started his underground life 6 years ago. At first, as an old liner and former formular race driver, he rejected to touch the underground culture. But exactly because he didn’t get familiar with the underground society, he was depressed and lived poor. But he met Yona, who gave him a different thought on underground culture, and gradually getting into the society in following years. Yona is his hero…
The police officer who is in charged with modified car case. He does everything in justice, but he firmly knows what makes underground culture. He knows who should goes into prison, and who should not. Tragedy happens around him every day, but he handled it well, even upper level keeps oppressing him to catch “every criminal” underground.
A gang member from former “Yakuza” in Japan who has certain power in several blocks in underground society, which is not far away from Yona’s working place. He asks Yona’s factory help most of his gang member modified their car. Their members always do underground car meet around the city, making loud noise that attracts the police attention. Always the first objective for Officer Jonnas to investigate. Though, he is not a completely bad guy…
A colleague of Yona in factory. She is the one who taught Yona skills and recruits Yona as the formal member of car factory. But unfortunately, since the life is so hard for her, she keeps doing drugs while she is not working. She always deals drug with Taro’s gang and needs to meet with Taro every day for her bad habit. Yona is the person who help her as well when she feels hopeless.
CAR MODIFICATION
In CAR FAC, people turn tons of scrap iron into an art piece of modified vehicle. In Neon City, other than the loud engine sound, people use light growing car parts to brighten up the dark city. Here are some Yona’s and Natasha’s work that turned 1980s-2010s cars into a shiny racing monster.

THE WORLD
The police are using the upper society vehicle that used new hydrogen fuel and cruising around the city. They are fast, intelligent, and easy to drive, if people have enough money, they can own the new vehicle from upper society. But none of the people underground could afford this fancy new invention. The underground people hate these vehicles, but they have no choice seeing them controlling the city. Old school vehicle is their unique way to protest, since one police cruiser cannot catch hundreds of modified cars. What’s more, the emission of hydrogen fuel is actually harmful to people who could not have a completely new medication from upper society, especially for those kids who haven’t been to the upper society hospital at all.

Ivan’s home garage, where Yona and Ivan are living in. Located in a quite block in old downtown, small size, relatively low prices estate in the Neon city. There are a lot of Ivan’s pasts on the photos and trophies on the old shelf.
Abandoned racetrack far away from the upper city, Ivan’s former racetrack where he won a lot of games here. Now it becomes a free space for people from underground society to test their car.
